Is this as blatantly obvious to anyone else? From today’s Morning Papers:
The Washington Post leads with intelligence officials and experts worrying that Iran may coordinate terrorist attacks in response to any military action that the United States might take against the country’s nuclear program. Besides targeting U.S. interests in Iraq, there seems to be agreement that Iran would also carry out attacks against civilians in Europe and the United States.
Jesus, are we really that stupid? Written by Dana Priest, the same Washington Post reporter that sat on the knowledge of secret CIA prisons for over a year before unveiling it only to win awards for finally fessing up (assuming she’s done so). From the article:
U.S. intelligence and terrorism experts say they believe Iran would respond to U.S. military strikes on its nuclear sites by deploying its intelligence operatives and Hezbollah teams to carry out terrorist attacks worldwide.…
U.S. officials would not discuss what evidence they have…
“U.S. intelligence and terrorisms” experts, eh? Yea, I remember them. They were the purveyors of fear that told us that Saddam was behind 9/11 and that Iraq had WMD, and all at a strikingly similar time in the chronology of events leading up to the invasion of Iraq. (Can you say “manipulation?”)
So now Ms. Priest writes a story just letting us know that these guys are now just worrying out loud that if we attack Iran, they may retaliate? Retaliate? How dare they. We better kill them all before they kill us in retaliation for killing them, a preemptive attack.
Bush says he is pursuing a diplomatic solution to the crisis, but he has added that all options are on the table for stopping Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons.
Right, I have great faith in the President’s ability to negotiate a diplomatic solution. He has great track record for figuring out that sort of thing. We should just leave it to him to discern if they have WMD and would use them to initiate a preemptive attack against our preemptive attack. (What do you call a preemptive attack to a preempt a preemptive attack?)
I feel the same sense of disbelief I did when they did this before Iraq, that there’s no way the American people were gonna fall for it, conflicting accusations and convenient secret evidence. I think it was a NY Times reporter selling us the goods that time though. Anyway, we know the story, the American public swallowed it up hook, line and sinker. Here we go again. (Can we please fund our education system now?)
Coming to television sets soon, “The Day After” revamped to portray crispy Americans fried by Iran’s nuclear, sorry nucular weapons. We should be very afraid.
