So, I’m admittedly a little out of touch with the news and I wasn’t even born yet for the Nixon administration, so please feel free to set me straight if I don’t have it right, but a friend of mine was telling me that “Deep Throat” has now revealed himself and it turns out, he was one of the head honchos in the FBI.
Umm, so, who’s job is it to protect us from abuse of powers in the executive branch? If the president is involved in a politically motivated break-in, isn’t it the FBI’s job to do something about it? So of the millions of people in this country, it was pretty much his job to do something about it. And his solution was going to the Post.
So, regardless what you read in text books, that is how our system works. If the president does something illegal the FBI leaks it to the Washington Post. Anything to the contrary seems to me just self-deception, the fact is that’s how our system is working. Just thought someone should write that down.
